“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (I Chronicles 29:14)
Do we know that this is true? What do we have that God hasn’t given us? How rare is it to be in a position to give? How many people recoil in shame and embarrassment that they do not have much, if anything, to give? Do we appreciate that giving is a privilege, another example of blessing, another proof of “the boundary lines falling in pleasant places?”
I enjoyed learning about Generous Giving, an organization that teaches about the joy of giving, encourages people to journey deeper into generosity and to share that lifestyle with others.
“If you believe that you are a person with a spiritual inheritance, you are going to be radically, promiscuously generous with your earthly inheritance,” says Tim Keller on the Generous Giving website. It’s giving out of gratitude, knowing it all originates with God.
